Are you sad and tired? Want to rejuvenate? Well, then pack your bags and fly off to Brighton in the UK, which has been dubbed as the 'happiest place' to live in the country, according to a survey.

The survey found that almost 94 per cent of city's residents said they had a happy home. The south coast city defeated Leeds to grab the top slot.

Leeds was followed by Edinburgh, Cardiff and Plymouth. Liverpool came seventh, London ninth, Manchester 11th and Belfast last in the 17-strong list.

The benefits of living in Brighton city are culture, shopping, restaurants and nightlife etc...

'We're not surprised,' The Sun quoted tourist chief Charlotte Barrow, from VisitBrighton.com, as saying. 'We have all the benefits of living in a city ' such as the culture, shopping, restaurants and nightlife ' with the bonus of being by the sea, which keeps us relaxed and calm.

'Also, as Brighton is compact, people generally walk around. So they get to know their neighbours, adding to the friendly atmosphere,' Barrow added.

The study, for O2 Home Broadband, found key factors in having the happiest home included living in Brighton, being married and aged 45 or more, and having two or more children. It put the national average of happy homes at 85 per cent.

Ben Renshaw, director of the Happiness Project, said: 'With 90 per cent of people stating that their home environment has a positive impact on their happiness levels, it is clear just how important it is to maintain a happy home.'

People are more likely to reach 75 in the South West than anywhere else in England and Wales. Men there have a 70 per cent chance and women 80 per cent, according to the Office for National Statistics.
