It was the action of democracy that people in New York has witnessed recently. Christopher James "Chris" Christie unseated Jon Corzine from New Jersey governor's race on Tuesday, November 2nd 2009. The Republican former United States attorney strokes a blow against the Democratic Party on a national stage through this victory.

Born on September 6, 1962 in Newark, New Jersey, as the son of Bill and Sondra Christie, Chris Christie was raised at Livingston. He graduated in Political Science from University of Delware. He met his life partner Mary Pat Foster at the university and got married to her in 1986.

Chris Christie started his career in investment banking with his wife. In 1987, Christie joined the law firm of Dughi, Hewit & Palatucci of Cranford, New Jersey. Soon he started his political career and elected as a Republican to the Morris County in 1994. In 1998 Christie registered as a lobbyist for the firm of Dughi, Hewit & Palatucci, alongside fellow partner and later, gubernatorial campaign fundraiser Bill Palatucci.

Even though there were some controversies regarding his appointment, his views on public corruption made him a popular figure.

Christie was nominated to be the U.S.Attorney for the District of New Jersey on October 7,2001. He also started long investigations into many corruptions known as Operation Bid Rig.

Christie had to face many severe criticisms during his career. He was criticised for misusing deferred prosecution agreements. He was also accused for partisanship and civil rights violations.

On January 8, 2009, Chris Christie filed papers to run for governor. He accused Mr. Jon Corzine of leading the state into economic turmoil, edged out Mr. Corzine by about four percentage points. Chris Christie's victory serves as the testimony for the popularity of his views.
