Sunidhi Chauhan: Sound of Success
By: Saneesh Michael
"Music is my life, my passion and my love. Music means the world to me."
Sunidhi Chauhan

Sunidhi the new generation singer
Sunidhi Chauhan, whose life is often mentioned as that of a princess locked in the pages of a fairy tale, is a new ripple in the world of Bollywood Music. Born on 14th August 1984 she crooned her first number Ladki Diwani (Shastra) in 1994, went on to win the mega final of Meri Awaaz Suno in 1996, has sung for over 2000 Hindi and regional language songs till date. She walked into the world of music as a little girl in a talent search TV music show. She showed no nervousness. Rather, only a confidence that took audience by surprise. Sunidhi began performing when she was five. TV host Tabassum spotted her at a show and convinced the eight-year-old to give Mumbai a chance - to develop her talent. So Sunidhi moved to the city of dreams and into music director Kalyanji 'bhai's Little Wonders troupe, in which she was the lead singer.

Sunidhi has loved music ever since she was a toddler. Her parents soon realized they had a prodigy on their hands after seeing the exceptional musical talent of their young child. Sunidhi performed on stage several times and got many awards.

Her first break in a Hindi film was in the film Shastra followed by Gang, Veergati, Dahek, Bade Dilwala, Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat, Shyam Benegal's Samar. Her first breakthrough however was Ram Gopal Verma's Mast. She sang the hit Ruki Ruki Si Zindagi and also three other songs in the film. Sandeep Chowtha's first film as a composer got an ideal virgin voice in Sunidhi and her song became the most memorable number in the film. After recording for Sandeep Chowta for the film Jungle, she went on to sing in Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Mission Kashmir. She added yet another feather to her cap by bagging the R D Burman award for the most promising newcomer at the Filmfare Awards 2001.Sunidhi has also cut her solo album called 'Aira Gaira Nathu Khaira'.

Sunidhi also sang the English song "Reach Out" at the opening ceremony of the 2006 Asian Games at Doha, Qatar and the 'windows vista' song. She has also sung the songs in the Hindi-dubbed version of Disney Channel Original Movie High School Musical. She sang the songs which were sung by Vanessa Anne Hudgens in the English version.

Sunidhi is religious and believes in God, in one of the interview she quotes "God is my inner conscience; my intuition, my inner self, my guiding force and my angel who protects me. I have always had deep faith in the supreme power and it has never wavered at all. Once I had to sing a hi-pitch song for the movie Mast and my throat was really bad. It was my faith in divine power and my ability that helped to record successfully. Faith makes a lot of difference in life."
